Black Bart
Dark Roast
A Uniquely Enjoyable Dark Roast
About This Coffee
The outlaw Black Bart hid out just miles from our Ukiah roaster during his stagecoach robbing days, so it’s only right to name our dark roast after him... because Black Bart Dark is an outlaw, too.
We blend 3 coffees, roasted to different levels: one roasted dangerously dark, one roasted medium, and one light. This blending style gives Black Bart a dark smoky flavor with full-bodied layers of complexity and sweetness that you’ll usually only find in lighter roasts.
Designed to taste great straight black or with milk and sugar, Black Bart is a delicious match for savory breakfasts.
How To Brew
Brew as drip coffee using a ratio 14:1 to 16:1 (water:coffee). For a single cup of drip coffee we would use about 20 to 25 grams (3-4 tablespoons).
Use our brew guides for a good jumping off point with your preferred brewer.

It may be a dark roast. However, there is no bitterness whatsoever. Having a freshly warmed cup of this roast. Is as smooth as a twilight dream. Can’t wait to tryout another bag. I’m sure it’ll be just as good!
I’m still searching for my ideal coffee from Black Oak. I should have read the fine print that Black Bart is a blend of three different roasts. To me, the lighter roasts are dominant. So, this review is about my personal taste preference and expectations. The coffee reflects quality and care all along, just not the profile I was seeking.
I have a reason to wake up in the morning. The first thing I do is fire up the Jura and then I begin to wake up... BB is the coffee I wanted to be when I grew up, smooth and sweet. I first encountered Black Oak coffee in Rohnert Park at Chila-Killa and drove directly from there to Healdsburg…it was that good. I now purchase 5lb bags online because I live in SoCal but I would drive the 8 hrs if I had to.
Black Bart is everything I love about a great cup of coffee - rich, complex, flavorful coffee that brews exceptionally well with.a Breville Precision Drip Machine. Another factor that I like is that I don't have to use a ton of coffee to get a flavorful, satisfying cup, as Black Bart has a strong sharpness (def not bitter) that really shines through! This is my new house coffee! Bravo Black Oak!
We tried this blend at a bed and breakfast in Mendocino and loved it! We found it and purchased a subscription. It’s our daily coffee and we love it!
Amazing coffee!! I think it’s one of the best coffees I had including black oak French roast. Superb quality with beautiful flavors and aroma!! Thank you Black Oak coffee !!

Black Bart Dark Roast
All of your coffees that I have tasted over the past few years have been full of flavor and so fresh. I like Black Bart in the blends and the single origins from Ethiopia the best. I am not an expert just a 90 year old lady who came to drinking coffee in my sixties. Black Oak Roasters never disappoint.
Black Bart is always one of our go to coffees. Great flavor!
Black Bart Dark Roast
Black Bart is my favorite. Perfect every time. A bold cup of coffee with no bitterness. It’s the best. Listen, I order from Kansas if that tells you anything.
Black Bart is a mellow, very smooth coffee. We enjoyed our bag but normally prefer a medium/dark - dark roast. Although Black Bart is labeled as dark, I feel it came through as a lighter, medium roast. It is a mix of 3 roasts (dark, medium and light) so perhaps ours was on the lighter side. Would definitely try again!
Delicious!
Black Bart has become one of my favorite coffees from Black Oak. Picked up a bag on a whim in the shop, and now I have it on order every two weeks (w/ another bag to mix up during the week...). Another home run by one of the best roasters in North America!
It's a warm hug followed by a kick in the behind to help me start my week. It helps that it's also delicious.
I've enjoyed this coffee since my company served it as one of their main brews in 2015. In 2017, when presented with an opportunity to change up the coffee in my new workplace, I held a blind taste taste in which 100 employees participated. All the "major" brands were there–Black Oak's Black Bart was by and large the winner and the main brew chosen going forward. Now, I get to enjoy this coffee virtually every day with my monthly subscription sent to my home. Dark, smooth (not bitter), and well- balanced, this will be our home's main choice of coffee for years to come.
I have been looking for years for a non bitter strong coffee that is smooth. I finally found it. SO good!!!!
Wonderful coffee. I'd like to walk into your shop and order a cup of fresh-brewed coffee. So, I have a proposal. Why don't you relocate in Berkeley and give the local roasters a run for their money? I have no doubt you would come out on top.
Excellent roast - good cream when I pull espresso shots. I tend to prefer darker roasts but this is an exception as it’s lighter roast but has flavors of dark roast. Works very well with my espresso maker.
This coffee was suggested to me by someone in San Francisco, and I was delighted to see it is locally roasted in my county. I have been purchasing coffee from a roaster in Pt. Arena for years and happy with it, but the Black Bart was smoother and sweeter and perfect for my espresso.
I will buy 5 pounds next time.
Excellent Dark Roast! I would love to see more dark roast offerings from Black Oak.
Great Coffee
Smokey and smooth is the best way I can describe this blend. It's not as complex as I thought it would be but this is definitely a dark roast worth checking out. It would make excellent milk drink.
I like dark roasts for espresso. Some of the beans are not dark (it is a blend of different roasts). Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty avoiding sour shots. I'm having much better luck with their french roast, wagon wheel.
Great!
The blend provides a more complex, more enjoyable flavor profile that far surpasses any other dark roast.
From the first sip, I knew I’ll be ordering more in the future. It doesn’t have the immediate bite of a typical dark roast, but it had plenty of texture. It has enough lightness to appeal to those who might not drink dark roasts, while also being a likely favorite for those like me who love dark coffees.
The best dark roast I've ever had.
I tend to like medium-dark coffees and Black Bart is right up there with being one of preferred blends.
